Do you struggle with cliques?? What kinds of struggles do you have? Read "Cliques" Tab.

well i have struggles with cliques (who doesn't?!) because i'm not in one, but i am in a rather large group of friends at school and at church. but there are so many popular kids who seem to just want to pretend i don't exist that it's hard to remember the nice ones. how do/did you deal with cliques?

Great question! Cliques were SO huge when I was in jr. high and high school and to add to it my parents moved me from NJ to Missouri at the end of my 7th grade year! We had the cheerleaders, smart kids, rebellious kids...and I wasn't any of those! I wasn't smart enough for the smart ones and shallow enough for the cheerleaders (and I'm not saying they're all shallow, it was so at my school) so I was never in a clique. It was very difficult at times but all I could think was that the most important thing was to know who I WAS and to be true to it. I had goals and dreams just like you do and I wanted to obtain them and not get caught up in the pettiness of middle school and hs life. I was really active with church and worked for my parents who owned a resort. I had a couple of friends I palled around with and pretty much concentrated on getting good grades...I know how boring that sounds! So many kids I knew were sleeping around or doing drugs and I knew that in just a handful of years we would be outta here and off to college...that these years in MS and HS were just a blip on the map and soon real life would begin. Anyway, the moral to my story is to stay true to YOU no matter what. Some of your friendships will drastically change as you enter HS and some won't but if they do that's okay...as long as you don't lose sight of who YOU are and where YOU'RE going then you will have friends with the same goals and values! And most importantly, keep your relationship with Christ at all times...even when friends fail you, HE will always remain!

Prov 18:4 A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

Yes I do!!
Even @ church!!
I look around and there are so many cliques, that I can't stand it!!
I look around and I see the popular clique. Then I see the jocks clique (yes even @ church!!) and I see so much more!!

You know there are 2 kinds of cliques:

One of them is the "pops" kind, where it's all a "pop"ularity contest and only the prettiest/hottest can get into it...sadly. :(

But then there is the "U+J" kind, where it's just you and Jesus! Your little clique!! That the one that I belong too....how about you??

God bless!!

At my school and at youth group there are cliques of course but really most people (unless they are evil to the core) will love you if you love them first. Don't sit on the side lines and act like you expect to be rejected, you have to be nice first. Make sure you are always looking out for others first, especially the kids who maybe aren't so popular. And NEVER EVER talk bad about other people to become popular or just to complain. Nobaby really actulally likes to hear it. See, how I figure it, if everyone except for the popular kids likes you, really you are the more popular one!! The most important thing is to be like Jesus, which is very appealing to your heavenly father and others.

This is just advice form personal experience.

ok, i am homeschooled so most my friends are @ church...i have lots of friends, and sometimes it's hard because like, most of them hang out in this little group, which i'm afraid is a clique, and a couple others just hang around.and I have trouble deciding who to hang out w/ cuz I don't want to hurt anyone's feeling's... i usuaully hang out w/ the bigger group/ clique...I don't think we would tell someone they couldn't hang out w/ us, or turn anyone away, at least they didn't when I moved here last year... I mean, all my friends are christian's (as far as i know) and are great friends/people...I'm just not for sure what to do, or if I should do anything... any advice?

Yeah I know how that is. That's sort of how my youth group is. Just do what you know is right. If you have a bad feeling about it, it probably the Holy Spirit so listen and God will help you know what to do.

Another idea- why don't you take the kid who gets left out to a movie or shopping or over at your house sometime? That way you could get to know them better and it would help you know what to do.

girls i have been in a clique for almost a year now, trust me it's not what it cracked up to be. sure maybe you get to be a little popular, but for what? u loose all ur real friends to people who want to control ur life. STAY AWAY FROM CLIQUES!!! it may look like the clique members have it all, but take it from me who's been there, they r just shallow people wanting more and hurting inside from self-denial, and they really aren't real friends. I have recently decided to "quit" my clique, even if i loose my "friends" involved in it. i am trusting god to work it out, but i know he doesn't want me where i am. Trust me, an ex-clique member, it's no worth it, keep whatever friends u have now (even if ya only have one), it's better than being someone ur not, just to fit it. it was the biggest mistake i ever made
